Factoring "short-sleeve" RSA keys with polynomials
Researchers find hundreds of unique RSA keys with heavily biased private-key bits that can be factored quickly. Working with Hanno Böck of the badkeys project, they identify the software bug that led to the faulty keys.
The discovery shows that improperly generated RSA keys can expose systems to rapid private-key recovery, and that affected keys exist in the wild. Operators should identify and replace keys produced by the faulty generation process.
